SSIF assessments overview

SSIF funding projects

The £140 million Strategic School Improvement Fund has been set out by the DfE to support applications that address local improvement priorities to benefit multiple schools (minimum of 4 supported schools per application). Applications must be supported by evidence that demonstrates why the proposed improvement approach is expected to drive up standards in those schools and applications that deliver in key areas are particularly welcome, please see details below.

GL Assessment already supports a large number of SSIF projects through bid writing support and is also the chosen assessment provider of many clients. We partner with a range of education providers (LAs, MATs and TSAs) providing independent measures for over 40 EEF research projects. Our assessments establish the baseline data of pupils' attainment, stakeholders’ perceptions and existing barriers to learning. Subsequent project interventions use this baseline data to provide a rigorous measure of improved outcomes and impacts made.

Below are some of the core areas of focus for approved projects cross referenced with our assessments and examples of impact. Please read through and click respective sections for more information.

The Strategic School Improvement Fund Reading and Knowledge Project aims to improve the reading comprehension of disadvantaged pupils at KS2 in 14 schools by ensuring they have a sufficiently broad background knowledge to recognise words instantly. SSIF is using GL Assessments to get a baseline measure of children's reading ability and to assess how this changes over the duration of the project. GL Assessments are a method of evaluating the impact of the project.
