The GL Education Value-Added Service seminar

The GL Education Value-Added Service provides a quantifiable measure of the impact your school’s teaching has had on its students. The service provides evidence that gives a richer understanding of a school’s performance considering the starting point of each student.

The information is delivered via an easy to use dynamic dashboard that allows you to carry out detailed analysis into the performance of groups, subjects, cohorts and individual students. Not only that but you can also compare your results against the average of other schools using the service.

UK Education & Assessment Update

Paul Charman will provide an overview of the national changes and trends in assessment and accountability for primary and secondary schools in England over the last three years. During this time primary and secondary schools have seen the introduction of new a new national curriculum, new KS2 national tests, new reformed GCSEs and a return to linear A-levels. 

Alongside these assessment changes, there have been changes to school accountability,  with a new set of school performance indicators for attainment and value-added progress being used to benchmark performance for primary and secondary schools. 

Paul will then explore how the assessment and accountability changes are driving changes in the school curriculum and look at the latest trends in education outcomes for pupils in UK schools compared to international schools.

Addressing the data challenge panel session

The panel will address the areas schools say are the greatest challenges they face in delivering effective assessment. They will discuss the root causes behind the issues and outline practical solutions that delegates can implement in their own schools.

Areas of particular focus for the discussion will include:

Life after Levels: Many schools are still looking for alternative, reliable benchmarks and are struggling with standardising and moderation of internal assessment.

Teacher understanding and engagement: Getting teachers to buy in to the data and use it effectively to support lesson planning remains a challenge for schools. Staff turnover and the perception that data is just there to performance manage make this harder for some.

Data triangulation / management: As schools try to incorporate measures of ability and wellbeing alongside attainment and progress they are looking for systems and processes to enable all their stakeholders to focus on the most relevant data to provide insight and context.

Understanding wellbeing needs: Once again the area of least confidence for COBIS schools. How to identify students at risk and what support systems should be in place.

Value-added: The individual area that international schools say they are least confident about, although COBIS schools are generally more confident than others.
