Tackling the Language Gap: a FREE one-day conference about delivering local change

Wednesday 01 April, 09:30 - 16:00

“A focus on reading isn’t an event, rather a staged, well thought-through and well implemented multi-year development for any school”
Stephen Tierney, CEO of the BEBCMAT, a blogger and author of Liminal Leadership

Do you want to hear from practitioners who are implementing town-wide projects and initiatives to close the gap in reading, vocabulary, and speech and language?

Are you looking for ways to work with schools to identify their struggling readers, address the language deficit, and implement strategies that work?

Would you like to collaborate and share ideas with other practitioners and Trusts?

Then join us at The British Library in London on Wednesday 1 April 2020 9.30am-4pm (registration at 9.00am)

Hear about three locality projects that are tackling the reading and language gap:

  • Blackpool Opportunity Area: Identifying the weakest readers to close the reading and vocabulary gap across Blackpool secondary schools. Presented by Stephen Tierney, CEO of the BEBCMAT, and Bernadette Kaye, Assistant Head and Head of Literacy at South Shore Academy
  • Bolton: Addressing the language deficit - Sharing how a co-created 'for Bolton by Bolton' improving language acquisition project is leading to improvements in students' reading outcomes, in individual schools and across the locality. Presented by Lisa Ling, Whole Education, and Tony Purcell, Executive Lead for Bolton Learning Partnership.
