27 September 2016 – GL Education is bringing together leading assessment specialists at the IPSEF Middle East conference 2016 to provide school leaders with expert guidance on using data effectively to inform teaching and learning.
GL Education will be both exhibiting and hosting a series of seminars for senior and middle school leaders who wish to develop their ability to analyse data across multiple assessments to build a more complete picture of their students. Case studies of best practice will also be provided by:

• Tim Richardson, Head of Primary School, Dubai International Academy, and
• Rebecca Eldred, Assistant Headteacher, Dubai English Speaking School

The use of data to ensure that each student reaches their full potential is an obvious approach to consider and we are delighted to work with IPSEF to support schools across the Middle East as they implement our assessments.”
GL Education will also be publishing a paper entitled ‘Pupil Attitudes to Self and School 2016’ at the conference, based on a study of over 30,000 students. The study highlights that children’s positive attitudes to school not only decline once they move from primary to secondary education but keep on falling two or three years after they make the transition, in one the largest-scale studies ever to look at the problem.
The paper follows an increased recognition of the importance of attitudes in learning from governments across the world. Indeed, the United Arab Emirates is at the forefront of developing a culture of health and happiness in all of their pupils through a number of high profile initiatives that underscore the importance of young people’s wellbeing to the future health and wealth of the area.
Stephany Herzog, Learning Support Co-ordinator at the American International School of Abu Dhabi, a contributor to the paper, explains: “Our students are incredibly diverse and have an ability range that includes educational difficulties as well as very high achievers. It is important to us that we meet every child’s needs, but attainment data alone does not give the full picture. The missing piece of the puzzle is attitude.
“Are children enjoying school and feeling happy, or feeling bored and insecure in their ability to learn? GL Education’s Pupil Attitudes to Self and School attitudinal survey uncovers this information for us so we can fully understand more than just academic barriers to learning.”
