Measures of Children’s Mental Health & Psychological Wellbeing is a unique portfolio of assessments authored by highly-respected professionals from across the fields of educational and clinical development, designed to help all levels of school staff and clinical practitioners screen and respond to children's mental health needs quickly.
A valuable tool for practitioners providing outreach services to schools and other non-specialist settings, the portfolio can be used to identify when intervention might be needed at an individual or group level. A number of school-focussed measures are included, which will be of use to practitioners less familiar with school based work, where systematic issues in school appear to be influencing a child’s emotional wellbeing. The portfolio can also be used by a range of school staff, including teachers, SENCOs and school nurses.
The portfolio provides a range of simple, paper-based assessment’s that can be used to assess a range of children’s social and emotional skills, individually or in a group setting. Along with an informative introduction booklet, the portfolio comprises a further seven booklets containing over 50 valuable instruments for measuring children’s mental health and psychological wellbeing. Full guidance is provided on how to administer, score and interpret each measure, as well as ideas for subsequent intervention. Results presented can be used as evidence in Ofsted inspections.

Measures of Children’s Mental Health & Psychological Wellbeing provides the perfect platform for delving into the individual elements that make up a child’s emotional health and wellbeing. To help identify children that may need this type of assessment in the first place, the Paediatric Index of Emotional Distress is a brief and easy-to-use self-rating scale that screens children and young people for general emotional and psychological distress, making it ideal for use prior to Measures of Children’s Mental Health & Psychological Wellbeing.
